Need For Hope

In 1973, the supreme court case, Roe v. Wade legalized abortion in the U.S. And when that case closed, Knoxville became the hub for abortions in our region. Over time, three major abortion clinics opened in Knoxville, performing an estimated 5,000 abortions each and every year. And among the city that housed those abortion clinics, there were no pregnancy medical clinics that stood for life, truth and hope.

Leaders from the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Knoxville and East Tennessee Nurses for Health Education had a vision to change the pro-life landscape in Knoxville. Their goal was to open a Christian pregnancy medical clinic that blended the work of both organizations to combat the devastation of abortion in our city. At the same time, Christ called a local businessman to take action against abortion in Knoxville. The three parties partnered to make their collective vision a reality. Hope Resource Center opened its doors in April 1997. The location: A grassy hill directly across the street from one of the largest abortion clinics in Knoxville. Today, that clinic is out of business.

Hope For Today

Since opening in 1997, Hope Resource Center has grown to serve countless men and women in the greater Knoxville community, providing education, health services and Christ encounters. Hope Resource Center has given more than 15,000 free pregnancy tests and performed more than 3,000 life-affirming ultrasounds since receiving our first ultrasound machine. Nearly 4,000 men and women have received free STD testing and free treatment if needed. Nearly 1,000 clients have received more than 2,400 hours of parenting classes. And more than 5,000 men and women have heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Learn more about why Hope Resource Center exists.

Be part of the future of Hope Resource Center. Our ministry depends on donations, volunteers and prayers in the Knoxville community. Your efforts give men and women a place to go and people they can rely on in the face of an unplanned pregnancy or other sexual health concern. Through you, Hope Resource Center provides a beacon of hope. But there’s still much more to do. More than 18,000 abortions still occur in Tennessee every year. Your support could change that statistic. The future of hope depends on you. Make an impact now by giving a generous gift or signing up to volunteer.

“After Roe v. Wade, Knoxville became the epicenter for abortion services in our region. Women from as far away as KY, GA, NC and all over Eastern TN came to Knoxville to abort their child. How sad that our city had become a killing ground for so many children in our region. By the mid-1990s, that sadness and sense of responsibility motivated hundreds of people to take on a God-sized task of buying land next door to Knoxville’s busiest abortion clinic and turned a steep, grassy hillside into the home of Hope Resource Center. While the challenges were many, God’s grace and mercy allowed Hope Resource Center to flourish and reach a hurting population in our city. We aimed to compete against the abortion clinic to offer services and solutions that reached beyond the choice for abortion. Hope Resource Center has done just that! Today, the abortion clinic that was next door has closed its doors for good. That clinic is out of business! Hope Resource Center has regained land that was once lost.”
